Choosing a design partner...
is one of the toughest and most important choices to face when you decide to bring your business's reputation to
the world wide web. Yet, it can be also one of the most rewarding choices if the right business partner is chosen.
The area of web design and corporate identity (two key specialties of NexxtWorld) cover
a lot of territory and take many important factors into consideration.
Each issue should be discussed before merging all matters into a web site that meets
your needs, and likewise, there are many issues to defining the visual image of your
business.
A web design should incorporate as much technology as necessary to reach the
goals of it's owner. E-commerce, secure access, dynamically generated
content are all examples of these possible technologies. A good
design will never incorporate unnecessary technology in order to pad
the portfolio of its designer. Unfortunately, this is all too often the
case, with the client's budget absorbed early in the process.
We recommend balancing emerging technology with other issues, such as
accessibility (are you sure all of your customers have the latest and
greatest computers, browsers and plug-ins or are you leaving business
behind?)
Also to be considered are issues such as frequency of changes anticipated in
the content of the site. Will your maintenance costs increase due to the
site being structured around cutting edge technology? Macromedia Flash and
Shockwave sites, for instance, are incredibly eye-catching and make the
statement that your company is at the fore-front of the world-wide web.
Remember though that content provided through these programs are also more
difficult and more expensive to change. Further, only those visitors who
have the appropriate technology on their computer will see this content.
Yes, they may download and install the programs, but then again, they may
simply move on. If Flash, Shockwave, etc. are part of a business image you
wish to convey, then of course NexxtWorld can provide some stunning
original presentations for your site in these mediums.
In addition, we recommend being mindful of site lifecycle. Don't let anyone design
a site which doesn't grow as your business grows. This begins with an
open-ended navigation system that is clear, useful and able to expand with
the needs of the site - without a major reconstruction in order to
add additional functionality later. Make sure your web designer's project
plan doesn't end at the delivery of this phase of programs, pages and
graphics. Be sure you know what happens two or more phases in the future.
We recognize that budget is usually the key factor in developing any business plan. We don't, however, start with this
discussion. Why? Because we consider the goals of the site to be the most
important factor. We aren't going to start with the dollar figure you have
available and then rise to meet that number. We'd rather learn about your
needs, then, if necessary, scale the project by priorities to meet the
budget. Perhaps together, we can scale the project so that certain areas
can be constructed later. On the other hand, if we can arrive at a solution
that is actually less than you expected to spend, we've accomplished
something we can take pride in. We will never try to add more to the site, simply to try
to fill the budget.
It's our belief that the business of providing web services can and should be honest and
above board. We wish to educate our potential clients to the pros and cons
of various possibilities in design for the internet or intranet. We believe that a
well-educated client is a solid and successful business partner. Whether
you choose NexxtWorld as a partner or continue to search, we wish you
well and hope you've found our site useful and educational.
